A contributor to The Atlantic since February 2001, she was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 2024. Her 2004 piece for The New Yorker was expanded into the 2006 book To Hell with All That: Loving and Loathing Our Inner Housewife. Flanagan also authored the 2012 book Girl Land.
