WebSep 21, 2024 · In this paper, a variable-length element, based on the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) in the framework of arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) description, is used to predict the characteristics of length variation and flexibility of the tether in the phases of retrieval and station-keeping. The principal objective of the paper is to develop a framework for applying semi-implicit numerical integration to ANCF and ALE-ANCF cable models. The proposed method comprises a generalization of Baraff and Witkin’s semi-implicit algorithm which can be applied with a variety of implicit methods.
